Class October 10, 2011

Start:     Oct 10, '11 08:00a
We played Scrabble again - with our rules added. I am telling you it is so much fun now. It has been always a dream of mine to have a Friday Funday... where we do games and pizza and such, but the kids where never old enough to play the games. Gosh only took 11.5 years. We do BB3s and Buzztime a lot.

ANY HOW> Tonight Little A (7) nearly lost it (tears) when I told him the words have to have "some" sense before they can be played and you can't just play anywhere. So trying hard not to bring out the the "old school teaching" I did lighten it up (dang it was hard).

One play he put an X next to an R and at first the other two where like no you can't play that. Then reminding them of the Rieth Rules. I said well now yes yes it does "mean" something. What does it mean? My oldest though a quick sec and yelled out Meds. (Close enough)- 7 year old get 11 pts for that and he was so exited.

Though not all his he read (with sound help) GUT, COW, GRAINS... etc

Later when he "lost it", he calmed down and put two letters on the board and I first was like in my head yes that is a word, but he can't play it, but I stopped and I said let us work on this word and I will let you play it anywhere. "IT" he finally got it lol it was kind of funny, but by the time he got it the game was done. More tomorrow seems to be the game in the house.
OH and before this... I was reading a book ( my littlest is into the "big boy" books no frills or pictures lol) Atherton http://www.hachettebookgroup.com/features/athertonseries/atherton.html. Little A (7) asked me to make a number line and he played with the math thing I had as a kid (at it works still! Will post it in a sec). He did about ten addition problems he wrote it out like they do on mathletics and hopped around the number line. My oldest was playing with the 20 questions ball... the one mentioned below.

Watched How It's Made and Amazing Race as well.

He his doing art with them and doing a mosaic type of thing with em lol. We only have red, blue, and yellow so yeah we need more colors.

Class 9/26/2011

Start:     Sep 26, '11 08:00a
Today started early.
We had lunch out, but before that we had time to kill so I read to the boys for an hour one of the Magic Tree House book (Number 33)

Then we ate. They brainstorm a lot when we eat out. During this time we played the animal game and for an hour it was Yes, No, Maybe. Aaron SAID he gave the answer at about the 1/2 hour mark, but I never heard him and Josh said it 1/2 hour after that in the car. Anyways it got them thinking.

They did do Mathletics today and I signed them up for the competition in October.

I had to return the audio of Inkheart so now I will have to read it. It is a very long book.

Karate today. We did some more Stick Work. I guess it is Black Belt stuff???

They watched some shows at PBS

Worked on homemaking - organizing a playroom

Watched Minute to Win it.. The boys really want to play some of the games so I am thinking of setting up a Win it to Win it Box.

Learned the importance of placing things BACK in their spot - Library DVD went missing. Ended up in the weirdest spot in the dining area. They were due BACK today and I was not about to spend a dollar a day!

Helped moved to new Coop Location and had orientation, Boys had to sit and be quite.... a tiny bit hard near the end, but I got complimented. They had some free things to offer... (like last time)
I took One box of pens, one box of red pencils, one box of purple pencils, one box of number 2's, one each of pencil sharpeners, one each flip notebooks. and Matt and Aaron found calculators in the box... there would have been three, but someone else claimed it and Josh was bummed, but we talked about it.

Josh made his into a Dream Journal.

Class: August 29, 2011

Expedition Impossible at lunch and Karaoke Battle U.S.A. relaxing before bed... Aaron is quite the judge lol

Aaron - I think finally learned to speak up and tell me he didn't like something, but would rather have something else or in another form instead.

Class: August 26, 2011

Start:     Aug 26, '11 08:00a
Gosh what did they do.. Oh some Mathletics.
I found Aaron had pulled out all two versions of Candyland that like have no boxes and was sorting out the card per version. He had a huge smile on his face.

Went to IHOP - the boys always come up with cool things when we eat out.

I started the processes of making yogurt. They helped me count the cups of milk.

Played some time management type games - Aaron was at this monkey site that was kinda cute, sorta like Club Penguin

They got the other day at the Library visit to watch (yet again lol) Bridge to Terabithia. I think they have seen it three time and it isn't due like till tomorrow.

Aaron, through out the evening, was comparing the book and the movie. Which we finished listening to on the way home by the way... I think The Inkheart books will be next. The kids saw the movie.. again another one I had no clue it was a book first. (City of Ember).

Shopped for bread making, yogurt making, and s'more making. Josh did some (math) trying to decide how much yogurt I should get for size and price. (Shhhh).

Tomorrow: Library visit, and hose telephones for science project.

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Class: August 24, 2011

Start:     Aug 24, '11 08:00a
Mathletics. Aaron completed level. I let the two go that were in the 90's because he will get it and I think they over lap some as you go up. I noted that all he did originally on level 1 was still there so he is half way through it already... he was excited about that. I am gonna try no tasks and let him have total freedom. Josh figured out with decimals that it goes backward in naming.

Bible Study

Little Self Control lesson today with younger two... this is an old issue I have been trying to break. Talking and sounds... So if you read NO TALKING by Andrew Clements you will understand. With my points system. So I guess I am working on the fruits of the spirit with them
I have tried telling them there is a time and place to talk and make sounds... and a time to be quiet. I really think that today makes these children make noise from the throat at all times. If they dont have TV or video games there has to be sound. I have said to them... If Native Americans made noise they would not have had dinner. If you talk that means you think and you cant hear God. If you talk you can't sleep. My two youngest lately have gotten to the point of being disrespectful in the AM and waking Josh up. Josh seems to understand no noise. That doesn't mean I dont allow them to talk... but self control is good - for everyone. It was lasted about an hour... I wasn't making any competition out of it or anything... but Matthew got the point even Picked up the Bible and looked at it for about 10 minutes.

Matt helped to make lunch. Pasta

Class: August 25, 2011

Start:     Aug 25, '11 08:00a
I jumped Aaron back up to level one in Mathletics.
Library visit.
Continued working on self control in the morning 10 minutes turned into 3 hours and when all was said and done when they want to bed. two were not making guttural throat sounds just to make sounds.. though I got J to laugh.

I caught Matt reading a Magic Tree house book (can we say whoo hoot!)

...And Aaron is already trying to pick out a weekend Science project because he asked for gum lol. They like this weekend thing so we will keep at it till other wise.

They played some new games on the computer.

Start:     Aug 22, '11 08:00a
Played a bit of catch up with Expedition Impossible.
Aaron was the only one that got on the computer to play at Mathletics.
He did his four tasks. Out of three he got 100% Whoo hoot! And then on a test an 94% it would have been 100%, but again he got silly and wasn't paying attention. So he has three more tasks he doesn't need to do anymore. *smile

Not sure how long it will take for any one of them to get a Gold Certif... but I am hoping sooner then later. I would love to bump J and M up in grade and Aaron back up to his level again.(Since I had to drop him down)
Karate today... it was a great lesson in both Karate part and "story lesson" part.

Library visit. I was really proud of their behavior today. I jumped for joy in my insides. Maybe Barry's story had something to do with it too. They picked 5 videos and not one fight to put one back.

Friday Fun Day

A bit of Mathletics.

Freedom on the computer. I caught them watching a mini marathon of Dragonfly on PBS.
The ones I watched with them was on Nanotechnology.

Time at BW3's for Bizztime. Cept this time they were really into playing Shark Attack. Matt Texas Road House??? He had no idea what he was doing, but he fell into second place lol.

Aaron and Matt ran around the house with a cup to their ear listening to things because they saw it on one of the science craft/ experiment books. Since Weekend Science has seemed to fall nicely as an idea I might work with them on making a telephone for the stairs and a stethoscope using the old water hose. Need to get some funnels.

Butterflies at the local nature center this weekend as well.
Bought 5 used text books from half price books. Out of about 10 they narrowed it down to 5. Most are science related and are Biblically based.
