We played Scrabble again - with our rules added. I am telling you it is so much fun now. It has been always a dream of mine to have a Friday Funday... where we do games and pizza and such, but the kids where never old enough to play the games. Gosh only took 11.5 years. We do BB3s and Buzztime a lot.
ANY HOW> Tonight Little A (7) nearly lost it (tears) when I told him the words have to have "some" sense before they can be played and you can't just play anywhere. So trying hard not to bring out the the "old school teaching" I did lighten it up (dang it was hard).
One play he put an X next to an R and at first the other two where like no you can't play that. Then reminding them of the Rieth Rules. I said well now yes yes it does "mean" something. What does it mean? My oldest though a quick sec and yelled out Meds. (Close enough)- 7 year old get 11 pts for that and he was so exited.
Though not all his he read (with sound help) GUT, COW, GRAINS... etc
Later when he "lost it", he calmed down and put two letters on the board and I first was like in my head yes that is a word, but he can't play it, but I stopped and I said let us work on this word and I will let you play it anywhere. "IT" he finally got it lol it was kind of funny, but by the time he got it the game was done. More tomorrow seems to be the game in the house.
OH and before this... I was reading a book ( my littlest is into the "big boy" books no frills or pictures lol) Atherton
http://www.hachettebookgroup.com/features/athertonseries/atherton.html. Little A (7) asked me to make a number line and he played with the math thing I had as a kid (at it works still! Will post it in a sec). He did about ten addition problems he wrote it out like they do on mathletics and hopped around the number line. My oldest was playing with the 20 questions ball... the one mentioned below.
